Things to do - Gardens and Country Houses

Nearby National Trust properties include Cotehele with its beautiful Tudor house and lovely gardens, Buckland Abbey (pictured above), the home of Sir Francis Drake and where a Rembrandt has recently been discovered, and Finch Foundry at Sticklepath. There is also the magnificent Georgian Saltram House in Plymouth.

Further afield, the magnificent house and gardens at Lanhydrock and the last castle built in England, Castle Drogo are both fascinating places to visit.

For garden lovers, The Garden House at Buckland Monachorum and The Cider House Garden (NT) at Buckland Abbey make a splendid day out and the Royal Horticultural Society's outstanding garden at Rosemoor, Great Torrington is within easy reach.

Wildside, Buckland Monachorum is an exciting naturalistic garden near The Bolthole and well worth a visit.
